There’s way too much stuff for you to do which you don’t have enough time. You want to get everything done and you’re always busy and on the run. You get home and there’s others things or more work to do. You don’t even might feel tired but your body starts to play tricks on you. You need to rest but you can’t afford that, because everything is too important. You just keep busy.
Taking time to relax is just as important as everything else! Your body need a break, even if just small breaks everyday with an occasional longer one.
When your body tells you it’s time to stop and you simply ignore it, it will make you stop. You get sick. If something strong hits you, you’ll need plenty of time to rest and recover. Which will only delay your schedule, just depends on how long.
Of course that sometimes it’s just something innocent like a bad cold or so and you can take some medicine. But not resting will only take longer than necessary to heal and you won’t be operating at your full capacity.
And if all those things that keep you busy are that important, then you’ll want to execute the while being your best. Doesn’t that make sense?
Just prioritize your tasks. That’s extremely important. It’s okay if you can’t get everything done in one day!
In my family everyone is very work driven. When I was a small child and got sick, I was always sent to school unless I need to be in bed. Yes, I could function. But I wasn’t at my best, I wasn’t comfortable and it only took me longer to get well.
Later as I grew up, at first I still had the family pattern, but then I slowly started to realize this and made my own changes. With, initially, great shock to my mother, specially!
I’m a huge workaholic when it get’s down to it, but I also happen to need a lot of downtime, perhaps more than most! And at first, I was worried. I thought “How will I manage, when I have to work 8hours a day, every weekday?”. Today I think, there are other options.
Everyone is different. Always remember that! Just because someone else needs less time to regain their energies, it doesn’t make you lazy!
Society can play an heavy pressure in this topic. Specially now-a-days, when everything is so frenetic. There’s a quick medical fix for most pains and you’re expected to keep popping up pills.
Follow your own pace, don’t try to keep running after everyone else. You gain the advantage of being able to perform at your best.
Learn to listen to your body. Know when it’s time to take a break.
