How many times have we labeled ourselves as lazy or shy or whatnot and advertise it to the whole world?
We insist on labeling ourselves with what we believe we are and aren’t capable of doing. How many times have we used a longtime label as an excuse to avoid something? I usually shielded myself from a lot of things with a typical “Oh, I’m too shy for that!” or simply “I can’t, I’m shy!”.
When we label ourselves, we are limiting ourselves and our abilities. We believe with strong conviction that indeed that label defines us and that’s final. We hide behind it and don’t question it. That’s just wrong! We are have a constantly evolving conscience and personality. We have the ability to learn from experiences, which in turn constantly molds who we are and who we become.
Don’t hold yourself back!
And how many times has a label stuck to us, whether we liked it or not? Most of the times we caused it and we believe it ourselves. And when you feel the time has come to break free from that, you realize no one seems to be supportive. Why? Because, first, they still believe in the label, second, usually people don’t like change. Most of the time people’s first reaction is of shock mixed with disbelief, but sooner or later they ease up on it. Although, there might be other people, usually closer ones, that find it harder to let go because that label also served them a purpose or so.
Don’t let other’s opinions about you influence your own. And most of all, don’t let their reaction discourage you!
Sometimes we say certain things just for a bit of comic relief, or for attention and sometimes empathy. It’s okay, we all do it. Just don’t let it get stuck to you, and don’t believe that it defines you.
